The Eco Fund is a public fund that implements part of Slovenian environmental policy by offering soft loans with a favourable interest rate (currently Euribor 3 months + 1.5 percent) and non-repayable subsidies (grants) for environmental investments, including investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

This tax is applied to different types of fossil fuels according to a pollution unit for specific fuels (such as coal or lignite) or by volume (for natural gas and commercial fuel oils). The tax payable for fuel combustion is based on the sum of the units of environmental pollution by CO2 emissions resulting from the purchased fuel.

The strategy provides a roadmap for making South Tyrol, a province comprising 116 municipalities and over 509,000 inhabitants, into a true “KlimaLand”, a model region for climate protection in the heart of the Alps and a sustainable region in Europe.
